Go Deeper: Cast Your Nets Into the Deep

When He had finished speaking , He said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper , and let down your nets to catch some fish.” {NIV }

Jesus encountered his disciples whilst they were fishing and asked for  one of their boats to use whilst ministering to the audience. When He had finished preaching, He noticed how Simon Peter and his partners had toiled the whole night without catching any fish. He then challenges Simon to try a new way of fishing that he was not doing all along, that is to try his fishing in deep waters.
There are many insights that can be drawn from this scenario that are very applicable in our daily lives.
The first revelation being, Jesus was challenging Simon to do something new, something he was not doing all along. He was saying to Simon, ”You have been fishing in shallow waters (safe/ comfortable place) and the results were nothing but ordinary. Now for a great catch, ” I am challenging you to deeper waters ( a risky place) .”
That is for change to transpire in our lives, we must be willing to take a new leap of faith. Change is rarely found in the ordinary. Jim Rohn once said, ” You can not expect different results whilst repeating the same things. ” Many folks or believers, wishing for change yet are not ready to try a new way, method or thing to embrace  that change, hence Jesus puts it this way, ” You can never put new wine into old wineskins. “
A good way to be stuck in a comfort zone,  a zone of no adventure, stagnation and failure, is not willing to change one’s mind or way of doing things.
Simon Peter was defensive responding to Jesus telling Him that they had toiled the whole night and caught nothing. That is a common excuse or cry most of us make when results do not show up and someone introduces us to a new way of thinking that can catapult us into results. The old mindset or way of doing things will try to hold us back from experiencing a new paradigm. Old habits, old friends and familiar places will try to restrain you from entering your season of growth and change, but you have to be willing to cast your nets into the deep and forsake fishing in shallow waters.
The days of playing small are over, the days of procrastinating, living in fear, playing safe and not making an impact are to be replaced with impact, an adventurous and inspiring life..
Cast your nets today into the deep for a great catch….
